Mac/Eddy Today #82 released, new information about 1949

Issue #82 of Mac/Eddy Today is a very important magazine, as it presents a detailed account of 1949, a difficult year when Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy’s relationship began to show serious cracks. Most of the information is quoted and sourced from contemporary letters, and some never before made public. Also covered are the final failed efforts to bring them together for an MGM reunion film, despite the fact that both had signed a one-picture contract. Among the new information: why Jeanette slapped producer Joe Pasternak across the face, and details of the mink stole Jeanette wore in her final film, The Sun Comes Up (released in early 1949) purchased by Nelson for her from the studio as a Christmas gift, for $8,000. Also included are comments by Claude Jarman Jr. and Jane Powell, about working with Jeanette in her last two films.

This magazine took me many months to write, as I have been going through and revisiting the documentation gathered over these last many years. The purpose of publishing these magazines on a continuing basis is to present very detailed documentation of the Jeanette MacDonald/Nelson Eddy story. In a book I can quote a few lines here or there; in these magazines I quote the entire interviews, or explore details that were not covered in the book, due to time constraints or the fact that some of them are not vital in understanding the dynamics of their relationship. But for those interested in the back stories and more precise details and confirmation of my source material, here’s where you can dive right into it!

We’ve had rave reviews for this magazine! It’s available at this link.
